BEPS Canada: Act to implement a multilateral convention

By Robert Robillard - 28 May 2018

Finance Canada has released its Notice of Ways and Means Motion to introduce an Act to implement a multilateral convention to implement tax treaty related measures to prevent base erosion and profit shifting

It is available here: https://www.fin.gc.ca/drleg-apl/2018/adtpfe-edipef-eng.asp.

As it is indicated in Communiqué 2018-037:

“The MLI is intended to allow participating jurisdictions to modify their existing tax treaties to include measures developed under the OECD/G20 BEPS project without having to individually renegotiate those treaties.”

In practical terms, the MLI will unfortunately add a layer of complexity to the already ever-increasing complexity of the international tax regime.
